You don’t need to start the year with a sprint

A gentle return. A grounded reset.

I didn’t ease into 2026 the way I expected.

After a restorative holiday in Bali, life pulled me sharply in another direction. My Dad was taken into hospital while I was in their air returning to Aotearoa … and a week later, his soul returned home. His farewell, the quiet that followed, and the swirl of Christmas and New Year's all of it washed over me like waves I couldn't quite outrun.

This past month has been unlike any I’ve experienced. And while grief has no timeline, this week marks my first real return to my desk.

Weirdly, it feels good to be here.

There’s comfort in rhythm. In opening my laptop. In sipping coffee while I review my to-do list and make decisions about what needs my attention.

For the first time in years, I’m back at work in the very first week of January and it feels… grounding.

While I was away in Bali (before everything changed), I found myself reflecting on what matters most in business and in life. And through all of it, the one thing that kept surfacing, was that success doesn’t need to feel like pressure. In fact, the best momentum I’ve experienced has come from spaces of stillness.

Here are three lessons that found me on the beach, in stillness, and in the in-between.

Slow down to speed up.

Spaciousness is strategy. When I removed myself from the noise, I could see clearly what needed to shift for me and where I was overcomplicating things that should be simple.

Energy is your first currency.

It's easy to pour energy into all the wrong places. I came home knowing I need to be more intentional about where my time and attention go and how I protect my peace.

Ritual is deeper than routine.

I realised it wasn’t routine that anchored me, it was ritual.

The quiet rhythm of meditation and journaling each morning didn’t just help me start my day, it brought me back to myself. It’s what helps me lead from a place of alignment, not urgency.

🧠 THINK (mindset shift)

You don’t need to start the year with a sprint.

💡 DO (practical action)

Take one hour this week to check in with your energy, not your to-do list.

🚀 HAVE (expected results)

A clearer sense of what actually matters as you build momentum this year.

Behind the Shift

What I'm thinking about

Starting 2026 with a different energy. Setting aside the goal setting, annual planning and quarterly priorities, for a devotion to soulful rituals.

What I'm Doing

I’m learning how to tune into the energy of oracle cards, starting with ‘the Inner Temple Oracle’ by Rebecca Campbell.

What's inspiring me

It might sound strange, but grief has a way of guiding me back to the question that always cuts through the noise: what truly matters now?

Alignment doesn’t need to be loud. It just needs to be true.
This week, the Misaligned/Aligned card from The Inner Temple Oracle, reminded me that alignment isn't about having it all figured out. It's about being honest with yourself. It's the quiet sense of rightness when your energy, values, and choices are working together. And when something feels off, that gentle nudge is worth listening to. Not as a problem to fix, but as a sign to come back to yourself.

I work with established service-based wāhine and values-led women entrepreneurs who have built something that works but can feel it's no longer sustainable. You're capable, reliable, and good at what you do. But somewhere along the way, the business started depending on you holding everything together. That's not a strategy problem. It's a self-leadership pattern. With over 25 years of business experience, I partner with you through coaching conversations that bring clarity, sharper thinking, and a more intentional way of leading so your business can grow without costing you yourself. This isn't about doing more. It's about leading differently.
